By means of a third-party adapter-splitter that plugs into your mobile device and functions as a bridge between your console's headphone port and your wired headphones, Voicemod is able to provide its voice-changing technology to console gamers. The Voicemod Key dongle allows players to get around current limitations on Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo systems that have closed-off software shops. Developers are prohibited by Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo from creating soundboards or real-time voice changers for their respective consoles that require stringent audio licenses.
Obtaining a voice changer on a PC is far simpler. To use a real-time voice changer on a PC, all PC gamers need to do is download and install Clownfish, though they should be careful not to keep it running in the background while participating in a work-related Zoom call.
Two double-sided male auxiliary cables and wired headphones with an integrated microphone are needed in order to use the Voicemod Key adaptor to change your voice. With one of those cords, you can link your headphones to the Key, and with the other, you can use a controller to link your console to the Key (or, in the case of the Switch and Steam deck, the console's headphone socket). Additionally, your phone must have Voicemod's iOS or Android app loaded, and iOS 16 or later must be installed on your iPhone. Software version 8 or higher is required if you're using an Android device.
Given the voluminous wires and devices required to reach a working voice-changer and soundboard, this system as a whole isn't ideal or a straightforward solution. However, Voicemod acknowledges that the Key is merely a way to "sidestep" current console limitations.
Consoles like Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo's Switch, and Steam Deck will work with the Voicemod Key. Voicemod's app and adaptor will work with tablets as well, if you'd prefer to experiment with different voices and noises on your console using an iPad or Android tablet rather than your phone. Power users of Discord may also use the Key's soundboard for on-the-go Discord voice calls or to switch their voice by just plugging it into their phone and using wired headphones with a microphone.
AI is used by Voicemod's technology to modify voices. The business first released its PC software in 2022. In the previous year, the company revealed that their Voicemod software could be integrated with MSI's Mystic Light system, enabling players to synchronize their altered voices with unique RGB effects.
