Outlook.com has been in preview since mid-2015, but that’s over now as Microsoft has announced in a blog post on Wednesday, with some additional new plugin capabilities for the webmail service.
Now running on Office 365 technology, Outlook.com features more useful plugins if you're running the email as a web app, also users on desktop can access them by downloading as separate plugin from Microsoft’s online store.
While, those users connecting to Outlook.com from the Outlook apps for Windows or Mac, will experience improved enhancements with the new platform.
The Office 365 architecture means you'll get the same benefits that millions of businesses, governments and schools around the world rely on every day.
Outlook.com now offers many of the powerful features like the ability to automatically add flight confirmations to your calendar to stay on top of your travel schedule and a smarter address book that understands who you talk to the most.
With deep Office integration, you can now view or edit Word, PowerPoint and Excel documents and photos while simultaneously replying to the original message.
Other new features include:
Likes and Mentions: The @Mentions functionality works in both email and in calendar invitations, allowing you to mention a person when typing in the body of an email, to quickly add someone to an email conversation by name and help them know they need to respond to specific things in your message.
Improved Skype integration: With chat, video and audio calls built-in so you can move easily between chat and email without ever leaving your inbox.
Emojis and images support: More fun ways to make your emails more expressive with emojis.
The upgrade to the new Outlook.com features for users will be automatic and as quickly as possible, with millions of accounts each week. All users will get the upgrade soon, and there is no action you need to take in order to trigger the upgrade.
